Description
The Komola Collective is an award-winning arts company dedicated to telling the stories that often go untold – stories from women’s perspectives. The collective travelled to Bangladesh to film Birangona women’s first-hand accounts of the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh in order to research and produce a theatrical piece Birangona: Women of War based on their testimonies. Between 200,000 and 400,000 women and girls were systematically raped and tortured during this conflict and were then silenced. The production uses physical performance, choreography, and animation interwoven with films of the real Birangona women’s accounts to tell their stories.
