Description
This book is based on a collection of oral interviews that details the experiences of ten Albanian women survivors of sexual violence from the Kosovo War. With their stories, they break the silence and illustrate the realities of women survivors of torture during the war. The book shows how sexual violence and torture serve the goals of power and repression and encourages society to reconsider how torture, sexual violence and other means of violence exercised on women are defined. Additionally, it presents strategies that are employed to eradicate gender-based violence in armed conflicts. The aim of this book is to document individual narratives and memories of women-in-war, which contributes to the process of dealing with the past as well as to social and transitional justice.
